Question:

Is there a way to measure the prescription of eyeglasses from the glasses?

I have a pair of glasses that I have worn for 5 years. They are perfect for me, but they are getting really old and worn out. I went to a doctor and told her that I just want the same prescription, which makes me see much better than 20/20, she said ok but seperated my vision and gave me a reading prescription and a distance prescription that was supposed to be the same as my old glasses, but they aren't and I am pissed! I have had the distance glasses made and remade a couple of times by the doctors office, but it's NOT my old prescription, and I go back to wearing my old glasses again.

Is there a device that can measure the prescription of the old glasses, so I can have another pair made for me, because I think the doctor is trying to find it by examining my eye and what she gave me was soooo far off, I could not even read road signs with it, and I just want my old prescription back and am tired of going to the doctor so many times, I bet she is tired of me too :-S!

Thank you

  1. No, it is not possible.

Do you have your old prescription form?

I think you are not doing the test correctly.

From my experience, the better you speak with the optometrist or doctor, the better the prescription. You must answer well.

All the lenses he gives you are based on what you say.

If you couldn't see road signs, that's your fault.

Give yourself a few days to adjust, then go back and try again.

I got it right first time.

  2. Yes, a lensometer is used to determine the prescription of lenses.  Your optometrist should have one.  Whether or not she used it, I don't know.

Most optometrists will take your old prescription into consideration when determining what to prescribe you, especially if you don't want it to change.

You may need some time to adjust to the new glasses.  I would give them a chance; your vision may have changed a bit and you just need time.  If they just keep bothering you, though, I would suggest seeing another optometrist.

  3. yea there is.....

my mom used to work at the walmart optical center....

walmarts have a machine... go and ask them if they can get your prescription from the glasses.

theres a machine that does it...

well, it does something with the glasses..
