Is there a way to move a bird's nest without disrupting the birds?

A pair of birds made/are making a nest in an old bookcase we have out there. Problem is, I have a hunting cat who also likes to lounge around in the bookcase. And I can't keep her in all the time. I thought about just smashing the nest, so they'd rebuild somewhere safe, but part of me also has faith that the birds will scare my cat off if they fly at her. But if the mother goes ahead and lays her eggs, I won't be able to do anything.

Is there a way to move the nest? I know probably not, but I figured I'd ask. Even if there was, the nest is like a loose cacoon with an entrance hollow. I think it'd fall apart of I DID move it.

  1. If you feel all this about it should try to turn around and leave a small open space for birds to enter and your cat will either lay on top or find another spot to lay around in till baby's are gone this will also keep cat from getting babies after all over turn back for your kitty
