Question:

Is there a way to move money from one bank account to another online?

I want to move some money from my bank account at one branch to my other bank account at another branch. They are both checking accounts. For security reasons, I'd rather not say which branches they are, although I know it would help to provide that information. I'm just pretty much wondering if there is generally an easy way to get my money from one account to the other without going to the branch? I went on vacation to a remote area this week and neither of the banks have branches within 50 miles. Thanks in advance!!

  1. Many banks that have online banking allow you to do that. I know bank of america has it available. Transfers between institutions usually take a few business days, though.

  2. I have account on line account transfer agreements between two separate an distinct banks.  I cannot say that I have ever heard of a two accounts with the same bank that can be co mingled.  But, I guess you have your reasons.  I would contact the bank and ask for two on-line transfer agreement forms.

  3. Most major financial institutions do allow you to make wire transfers online of your funds from one institution to another, however it does take typically 2 to 3 business days.  If you do it today before 4 you still won't have access to that money until possibly tuesday morning.

Since you are in a remote location your best bet is to write your self a check if you have your check book and cash it at whatever bank is local to your current location.  Good luck!  :-)

  4. What curious said.

The banks you are using will be the judge of whether you are able to do this or not. It should be pretty easy to find out from each bank if that's possible or not.
