I have some old Sony 8mm video tapes of family occasions and I was wondering if there is any machine, software or technique that will allow me to move them into my computer?

  1. as with anything its not quite that simple. you camcorder is not digital. You need to convert it, Dazzle make  a converter you plug you camcorder into it and then plug it into your pc simple, If you dont have a camcorder then have a look in your local newspaper, or secondhand shops, even friends may have one lying around. you can even use it to put your old videos onto your pc. maybe wedding or kids growning up

the cost is about 30-40 ukp

    good luck RR

  2. If you have the camcorder, you can connect the camcorder to your computer using an analog digital bridge like those from

If you don't have the camcorder, you may have a "video conversion service" in your town... they can convert it for you (for a fee).

  3. Yes, most Sony have Video out, I have a CCD TR86 from 1997 and have Video Audio out. Also have a DCR 350 and have Video in and out. on the oldone you can use regular VHS cables, and the DCR TRV350 you have 3 options, firewire(IEE1394), computer to camera cable (USB). and "S" Video cable. Hope this help you
