Is there a way to not get my laptop on standby when I shut the lid?

The internet card goes whenever it does. Its annoying

  1. Go to the control panel then power settings, it should all be right there.

    then right click on desktop..then properties then screen saver..then power then advance...now select what you want your computer to do when you shut your lid.

    for Vista ..its almost the same..

  4. You can try

    START >> Control Panel >> Power Options to adjust what the computer does when the lid is closed.

    But the issue your referring to is not directly tied to Standby mode, its more complicated because the WIFI card you're using (it's drivers more specifically ) likely cut  the signal when you go into standby and then may not acquire it when you startup again.  

  5. It depends on what computer you use. My computer allows me to set what I want to do when I close the lid. It's in the power settings.

  6. ahhh... i guess not.. i should say its on the hardware itself... i have seen laptops with sleep button on the joints of the lids so everytimr you fold it ... it will push the button
