Is there a way to open a Will or see a Will/Estate online?

My father passed and there was a will, his wife had passed as well so there is no way to find out who the lawyer is or where the papers may be! I was wondering if someone who know how i could find out who i could get in contact with!

  1. Wills are private until they are filed for estate probate.  Then they become part of court records.  No on-line database, though.  Look through his provate papers.


  2. OK, usually the will would be in his personal papers.  Once the will is filed in probate court, it's public record - BUT it's not online - you have to go down to the probate court and ask the clerk to look it up for you.  That's if it's been filed, and you just want to know what it says.

    So, if you haven't FOUND his will, to have it probated, you're going to have to go through his personal papers, and possibly go to court to get appointed executor so you can get to his safety deposit box at his bank.

    Biggest mistake people make, is putting their wills in a safety deposit box.   No one can get to them when they die, without going to court.

  3. Go to your county courthouse and see if a will had been recorded. If it is on file, they will copy it for you for a fee.
