Is there a way to order contact lenses without getting fitted?

This is the prescription my doctor gave me:

OD +1.00= -.75 x 180

OS +0.75= -1.00 x 180

Is there more information that I need?

For instance, 1800contacts.com has a set DIA and BC number...what do those mean?

  1. BC = Base Curve

    DIA = Diameter

    you must get fitted for contacts.  other wise they most likely won't fit properly and will be very uncomfortable and a complete waste of money.

    the prescription that you doc gave you is for glasses.

    priscriptions for glasses and contacts are different.

  2. My understanding is that the prescription is for a particular brand of lenses with specific BC and DIA. For example,  Acuvue 2's (BC 8.7 DIA 14.0) .  The site that follows tells you what you need to know to order any contact for it to fit right, you might have to concact the eyedoctor for the curve knowledge for your eyes.

  3. There is no way you can guess at the diameter and base curve you need , that's why you have to be fitted.

    Besides, that is a glasses prescription you have.

    You need toric lenses for the astigmatism. Those are more complicated to fit than regular lenses and often need 2 or 3 different trials fitted on you to see how they will rotate on your eye, then the prescription has to be changed accordingly.

    Sooo, no, you can't possibly order contacts yourself with that prescription.

    Your left lens isn't even available in contacts without the power being changed.

    Even if you did manage to place an order, they have to verify it with your Dr. first, then being as it wasn't a contact prescription, they won't send them.

    Yes, you need a fitting done...it isn't something you can guess at and expect it to work.

  4. its diameter and base curve.. i would get a correct fitting bc you wouldnt want to wear contacts that didnt fit.. especially if you get colored contacts, u would be struggling to see through it..
