Is there a way to play dvds on the wii using the hombrew channel?

i know there are two knds of usage of the hombrew channel of either using a modded wii or using the twighlight hack. Is there a way for you to be able to read dvds on the hombrew channel using certain applications that are supported?

No.  The simple fact is that the Wii doesn't have the hardware to read DVDs.  A CD player uses the same laser as a DVD but it can't play DVD because it doesn't have the hardware to decode the data.

link is correct, you can play dvds using gamecube mode if you have a modded wii, and there is an upcoming wii mode version that will work on unmodded wiis

however, the way games consoles work, they only read small burst of data for each level of a game etc, where as a dvd player laser works continuously to read throughout the whole disc. because of this, when you try to use a laser designed only to read small amounts of data to read alot, it wears it out much more quickly. this is like what happened to ps2s that were used to read alot of dvds, and as a result their lasers wore out much sooner than expected. so although there

is a dvd player soon to be released, i would not advise you to use your wii as your primary dvd player

and whoever said that cd players use the same laser as dvd players is TOTALLY WRONG!! DVD uses 650nm wavelength laser diode light as opposed to 780 nm for CD

hm.. actually what you probably meant to say was "there are 2 ways to install the homebrew channel 1. twilight hack  2. modded wii" but yeah.. bushings contacted nintendo about a security hole that could lead to playing pirated games on an unmodded wii but nintendo hasn't responded with any interest so now bushings and the other hackers are working on a program that will allow a new app to be able to play dvd's without being able to play pirated wii games

and yes the wii can play dvd's i've done it with my modded wii using MFE media player running on GC mode but it's really crappy so hopefully the wii version is better

if you use the homebrew channel please don't pirate VC / wiiware games, and if a softmod comes out please don't use it.. because if you do it'll give the homebrew channel a bad name when it's really an awesome addition to the wii, and also if you pirate games and nintendo loses money they'll kill all homebrewing on the wii so please don't do this (not saying you do) but spread the message
