  1. Yes - but they're painful and not always permanent. You could burn your fingertips with acid or extreme heat, but, providing you didn't get a heinous infection and end up losing your fingers or hand, they may very well grow back.

    Obviously, NOT recommended.

The problem is that machines that read fingerprints want a clear image of the fingerprint to identify the person and give him special access.  For example, my neighbor has a gun safe that needs his thumb print to open it.  You can easily prevent the machine from reading the print, but the door will not unlock.  An unreadable fingerprint is equivalent to no print at all, i.e., nothing useful for the person with the useless print.  It is the equivalent of not knowing the password.  Power only comes from knowing the password.

    Fingerprints are read by special machines. To prevent your fingerprints from being read by a machine, use gloves.
