I was wondering if there was a way of raising your undergrad gpa? Perhaps retaking classes that you did poorly in?

  1. This will depend on your college but for the most part if you retake a class in which you did bad, then you can replace the bad grade with a new better grade. Speak with someone at your college to see if there are any academic renewal programs. If there are, then you get "rewarded' for getting good grades repeatedly (for about a year.) Then you can go back and "erase" bad grades from your academic history and thus solved your low GPA problem.

  2. well this is what i did, i almost failed world history (i got a D) so to help my gpa so i could get into a program which needed a better gpa than i had...i took another history class. not the same one. if i took the same history class and got and A or B then it would raise the gpa only slightly. So after taking another history class and got a B+ it raised it more.

  3. The real question is why you think you need too. Depending on what major you had and what you plan to do with it, you may not need to.

I am in the IT field, and my GPA from college undergrad was less than stellar (2.8) by most accounts, but in the Sciences lower GPAs tend to be the trend. Ands I found that no one seemed to care once I started looking for jobs as long as I had some previous work experience (which I did interning) prior, especially in my field where having a degree is not always neccessary at all as long as you can prove you have experience in the field.

This is different than the social sciences, as I know it is a good deal more competitive just on sheer volume alone. My best suggestion would be to forgo going back to the undergrad, and just get some certifications and/or a masters. That way you are spending the time and money on something that will go a lot farther in the long run to further your career.

That being said, if you need to get a higher GPA to get into law school or something similar, check with your school. Some schools will let you retake classes as much as you like once you have the degree, and then amend the GPA as you get better grades. The other (and I think better) option would be to get a second undergrad and focus on getting better grades this time around...most schools let you do this in just 5-8 classes or 30 credits once you have a degree from that school, and that way you have 2 degrees for the price it will cost you to simply amend your old one

  4. Or studying harder and getting great grades in your upper division courses.

Graduate schools and employers look for an "up ward trend" in grades, meaning that as the work got harder, you grew up, applied yourself and improved your grades.

Now is the time to grow up and take college seriously.
