  1. At the moment there is not a way to do that but it is correct that the USB port from the DTV DVR are for ruture purposes and maybe we can transfer to the PC, but at the what can be done is transferring from the DVR to a DVD recorder.

NOTE: The DVR will only output one video signal. Customers must watch what is being transferred. The DVR will still record programs to the hard drive while transferring. Customers can view these programs after transfer is complete.

    ·            DIRECTV (TiVo) DVR:

    ·                       DIRECTV Central (Menu).

    ·                       Now Playing List.

    ·                       Select the desired program.

    ·                       Save To VCR.

    ·                       Start Saving From the Beginning.

    ·                       Press record on the VCR or DVD recorder.

    ·            DIRECTV Plus DVR (R15):

    ·                       Press List.

    ·                       Select the desired program.

    ·                       Select Play.

    ·                       Press record on the VCR or DVD recorder.

    ·            HD-DVR:

    ·                       VCRs and DVD recorders are not capable of recording High Definition content.

    ·                       Before transferring a recording, change the output resolution on the HD-DVR to 480i. To do this, press the resolution button on the front panel.

    ·                       Follow the steps above.

    ·                       After transfer is complete, change the resolution back to 1080i.

  2. Hi bball23,

With TiVo you can connect it to your computers network and transfer shows without any extra software or equipment.

You can do it with any DVR with DVD Xpress.

With DVD Xpress you can transfer your video to your hard drive and then edit it if you desire. DVD Xpress comes with basic video editing software. I got mine at Sam's for $59.95. They are cheaper now. You can look at one & read about it here - http://www.usb-ware.com/ads-dvd-xpress.h...

I saw a newer model at WalMart recently. It was the DVD Xpress2. I can’t remember what it cost.

You connect the composite output of your DVR into the DVD Xpress and connect the DVD Xpress to your computer via a USB cable.

  3. I heard direct tv is trying to make something like that.

If you notice on their recievers that there is a usb port on the front and back. It is going to be like a usb memory stick.

Wish they could hurry up with it.
