  1. If I am reading you correctly you have the satellite or cable box right?  If so, then what you need isn't a coax signal converter.  It is much easier and cheaper to convert video instead.  Your box should have video output.  At least composite video and hopefully s-video.

You can use these converters to allow your PC monitor to be used like a tv....

  2. No, it doesn't work like that.

The TV is only an Input device for COAX cable.

You want to attach and aerial cable to a tv card then connect the computer with the TV card to the monitor.

  3. To use a computer as a TV set you need a TV tuner card in the computer. Then you can take the Coax and plug in in the TV card attached to the computer.  The card can either be internal or an external USB type.

    for examples of available cards

EDIT>>> You need a scan converter. If the receiver has a Composite video out - RCA or S-Video then these units will convert it to VGA  (Only one of several models available)

NOTE: There are many more expensive models for HDTV if you want HD it is going to cost you $$$$$

  4. What you want is a demodulator.  They do make some with VGA outputs, but those are generally professional units and are fairly expensive.  We have a couple around the station here.

Basically, you should just put a TV tuner card in your PC and be done with it.  That would be the least expensive for your purposes.
