  1. I can give you a different answer to your question, which might help. It depends what 'need' is behind your question.

I wanted to be able to 'record' radio programmes digitally. Tapes have so many disadvantages - length of recording being the main one. I have just bought a DAB digital radio with CD player that records onto SD cards.  A  1Gb SD card gives about 15 hours recording time. Selecting programmes to record is easy as it displays all the individual progs on the screen for every station so you just scroll down and select the ones to record - up to a week ahead. It's brilliant - I can go away for a week and record all the progs I want (A 2GB SD card gives 30 hours).

I suppose I could put the SD in my computer and copy from SD card onto CD - but for me there's no point. I notice there are some car audio systems that have an SD slot - so you could take the card with you into car if you wanted and listen while you drive.

There are several companies that make these - I've bought the Pure DMX-60 which is a Micro  system - 40 watts/channel sound - DAB radio - FM radio - 99 pre-sets -CD player - recordable SD - Electronic Programme Guide - Radio Rewind (replay the last 10 mins if you miss something). All for £185. I'm really pleased with mine.

  2. With minimal equipment, you could get an audio patch cord, and patch from the headphone jack of a radio to the line-in of the sound card on your PC.  You could then record it with a program such as Audacity (freeware, open source).

The sound file generated by Audacity could be burned to an audio CD the same as any song.

Was that what you're looking for?

Some radio stations also stream their broadcasts over the web, so you might be able to record that directly in Audacity.

  3. Total Recorder- it's  just under $20 for the download- been working fine for me and my friends for several yrs
