Is there a way to tell how aged leather is?

I found a peice of leather in the woods and was wondering how old it was? Are there anyways to tell how old it is?

  1. I think the only way you could tell would be to take it to a lab and have it tested.  Leather out in the weather will age more quickly than leather that's been well taken care of.


  2. If the leather was on the surface it is probably not too old.  And if it were really old it would probably not be here for you to find because it would decompose.  You might want to find out the decomposing rate of leather.

  3. Just ask them when they were born! Sorry! I doubt you could tell the age just how well it has been taken care of, or, if it is made into something that could be dated.
