Is there a way to tell where your internet is coming from?

I'm trying to figure out exactly where my internet is coming from. I have Comcast broadband internet, and it has slowed down a lot in the past year, even with this so called "speed boost" they give you now. I'm good with computers, so I've troubleshooted any problem on my end of the connection. Lately I've noticed that some adds on websites which usually target your zip code are saying Swedesboro, NJ, which is pretty far away. I think something really fishy is going on with my internet service, I want to be able to prove that my connection is in fact being channeled from somewhere all the way in NJ. Is there a program that can pinpoint that for me? I need some proof if Comcast decides to lie to me when I call to complain.

  1. download IP Finder

  2. How do you know they're lying to you?

Sounds to me like you've got this idea fixed in your head & no-one will be able to convince you.

IP addresses aren't fixed to your geographical location- your ISP has a bunch of them & they hand them out on a 1st come 1st served basis.

Maybe your ISP's head office is in NJ?

  3. It will show the address that your IP address is registered. This will be an office address belonging to the ISP, and may have no relationship to where you connect to. My IP places me in a town 35 miles away from my true location.
