Is there a way to use global address list with mail merge ?

I'm talking about directly calling to global address list from MS word.

I afraid that's not possible because you can always export the details in the address book to a comma separate value text file, the file is by default ready to be opened by MS Excel, and it got titles on each column of the exported data, so MS word can use the file to do the mail merge without/without much modification.
