  1. In short: Yes there is.

You can use such sites as http://www.whitepages.com/reverse-lookup to find the owner of a listed landline.

The information this reveals is the name and address of the owner totally for free. It is free becaus the services use public listings of this information to find out the details. This means that some of the data might be out of date or incorrect AND it only works for listed landlines.

If you have no luck with that system, then you will need to use a website such as http://www.reversecellphonelistings.com or http://www.phone-number-trace.com to find out the location of the number for free and then you will have to pay for the owner info.

Because the companies who compile this data manually find it from many different public records and then put it all into a huge searchable database which you can search. Because all their information is up to date and high quality, they have to charge people to see it just so they can maintain it, let alone improve the service.

    I hope this helps?

  2. For many phone numbers, just type them into Google (can I say that in a Yahoo! board). :)

www.switchboard.com also has a reverse number lookup.

These don't work for mobile or unlisted numbers.

  3. www.whitepages.com let's you do reverse look up for free.

    http://www.anywho.com/rl.html

There is also http://whocalled.us/list/    This is a database compiled by people who received these calls.
