Is there a website I can go to that allows you to find the definitions of last names?

I am trying to figure out what the last name "Sundsted" means. If you could give me the definition, that would be great (but I would prefer a link to an easy website that you just type in the last name to get results)! Thank you SO much!!

A variation of sunsted which means solstice, or sun-struck.

Go to genealogy.about.com, try coat of arms, ancestry.com, and www.google.com then browse using their search engine.

You might have to do more digging to find the spot.

ancestry.com/learning, click Get Started, then Find Family Facts, enter the surname and choose Name Meanings from the drop-down menu.

Note: you do not have to subscribe to ancestry to do this.

* Rootsweb is supposed to be good, especially for one-name studies about particular surnames.

* Otherwise I have tried www.surnamedb.com a few times in the past

If it doesn't come up anywhere, like with my name, I then just try to Google it. for example if your surname is "Wheeler", I would Google "surname Wheeler meaning".
