Where online can I see the earth live from space or something really close to that? Does NASA have a satellite that sends a live feed or am I too much into the future? Thanks.

  1. Ok, maybe I'm crazy, but isn't this what weather satellites do?

    http://www.goes.noaa.gov/

  2. You can receive geostationary weather satellite images with modest hardware and a PC. I had a description of the required hardware for Meteosat's in a c't magazine, but I don't remember it just now.

Was primarily a digital data capable satellite receiver, a dish and a PC with special software. I know that the planetarium of Wolfsburg, Germany (I live there) showed life images of Earth in their lobby by such a set-up. There are also more DIY solutions around.

  3. I like to watch satellite feeds for NOAA, not sure what else

  4. Sure, Just catch the next Nasa launch and hop a ride!

  5. http://www.fourmilab.ch/earthscr/

While not live, it is simulated.

  6. So far as I know there're no satellites that provide a live feed.  Even the satellites belonging to the CIA and other intelligence agencies only take still images.  I think the main problem is that because the satellite's always moving, most of the time it wouldn't be taking video of anything other than somewhere random in the middle of the ocean, so it'd be a waste of resources...

  7. googleearth.com

  8. Yes there is a NASA site.  I recently formatted my hard drive an lost that link.  There is a NASA channel on http://www.wwitv.com When it is on you can see live footage from the space station.  Also there is a web site for the US Government - Nasa

    http://www.nasa.gov/multimedia/nasatv/in...

    http://modis.gsfc.nasa.gov/gallery/index...

    http://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/

This is the United States,  do you think that the government really wants to let the average citizen have such info.  What?  Do you want to be informed, wait in line with everyone else.  You will get information as the government decides that you need it.
