While it is not as popular, I suggest Wikinfo at wikinfo.org

Editorial policies at Wikinfo are different from Wikipedia. Looser in some ways, but more demanding in others. Generally, though, there is more latitude to write articles and not have them deleted. An understanding of what point of view your work presents will be helpful.

Citizendium is also a possibility if you are willing to write under your real name and play a subservient role to editors with academic credentials. Again, it would be an exaggeration to characterize Citizendium as a popular website.
