Question:

Is there a website that can tell you if a road is a city street or private drive?

I drove by a duplex yesterday that's for sale, but to get to it, I had to go over an approach across a sidewalk (like what you go over when pulling into a driveway for a house). Past the approach it was asphalt, and then each duplex on that 'street' had its own driveway that came off of that. At the approach was a street sign, and Mapquest shows it as a street (although I'm sure that's not a reliable way of knowing if it's really a city street).

Would this be on the city website? County website (I looked at this site but couldn't find anything about city streets)? Or do I have to go into an office somewhere?

  1. It depends on the city as to whether or not that information is available online.  I would call city hall and just ask them if it is a public street or not.
