  1. When you read any horror stories remember that IRS does not have the opportunity to tell its side unless it is given permission by the story teller.  

    It is like a trial where the plaintiff is allowed to lie and the defendant can't say a word.


  2. Wartz makes an excellent point. During the witch hunt of the 90s, the IRS was accused of many things that they could not respond to. However, there's no question that there were abuses going on. The reforms of 1998 have greatly reduced these abuses. A fascinating read is a book called "Confessions of a Tax Collector," penned by a former IRS Revenue Officer.

  3. There are numerous websites and forums for fake IRS horror stories.  I'm not aware of any for real IRS horror stories.
