Im in work and in the petty cash tin there is a 2 pound coin but its slighty thicker and its only gold no silver in the middle.

I know that in magazines you can buy special coins like a £5 coing and you can use it in the shops but is there i picture list of currently used coins?

And i dont have access to a bank to see if its real cuz its 10pm!

  1. Its genuine...the first coin was a solid and I think it was a celebratory of William  and Mary of Orange. You can bank it.Was probably minted around 1986...my kids have 2 each..also they have one with a thistle on the back for the same year.

  2. You have a 2 pound coin minted in nickel-brass alloy, and issued before the intro of the bi-metallic(2 color) type. Your 2 pound dated 1994 was minted to commemorate the 300th Anniversary of the Bank of England. It's legal tender, but due to its much lower mintage compared to the current bi-metallic type, not many people have seen it coz most of the coin ended up in collectors' possessions. There were several other nickel-brass commemorative 2 pound coins issued by the Royal Mint before 1997, all of which you can view here: http://www.ukcoinpics.co.uk/dec2p.html

  3. I am not sure from your description what coin it may be but check

It souds like one of the "special editions" and many of these coins are worth much more than the £2 face value so maybe you should get that coin out of petty cash!
