  1. Hi,

Here is a good website that shows most of the leaf shapes...

    http://www.cactus-art.biz/note-book/Dict...

Here is another website with leaf shapes and leaf arrangements...

    http://theseedsite.co.uk/leafshapes.html...

[Note: On this website, the top two rows of pictures show leaf shapes and the bottom two rows of pictures show how leaves may be arranged.]

Now, if you also have to name the plant that the leaves come from... it is best to simply pick leaves from plants that you know the name of (or that someone can tell you their name).  To identify a tree that a leaf came from, this is a helpful website... http://www.arborday.org/trees/treeID.cfm

I hope this is of some help to you.

  2. I'll give you a few websites that can help you identify trees in North America (you should specifiy your location, so you get results specific to your area).  But just a tip - look at more than just the leaves.  Many types of trees have similar leaves, so you also need to look at twigs and bark (and fruit if available) to confirm your identification.

Start with the tree ID animation in this link, then choose Eastern/Central or Western Tree Identification to identify trees in your area:  http://www.arborday.org/trees/treeID.cfm

    Some additional websites:  http://forestry.about.com/library/treeke...

    http://www.realtimerendering.com/trees/t...

You can also do a search for "tree identification (your state)" for more local results.

Not all trees will be listed in the keys in the links - only the most common ones, and usually those that are native (not ones bought at a nursery and planted), so keep that in mind when you choose your trees.

Once you think you have an ID, check it against this website, which will have a greater variety - just enter your zipcode, and when you get your "results" page, switch the option to  "trees" in the results box:  http://www.enature.com/home/
