  1. You'd do better to spend the money on some cheap used clubs and good lessons.

  2. ping has(had) a club fitting chart based on your physical characteristics on it's website.

Golf is a tough sport.  You have to have patience and confidence.  Unless you are a natural, the clubs will not matter until you learn proper swing mechanics.  It may take a little while (year maybe two).  Lost of little details.  Unless you are willing to take individual lessons from an experienced professional from the beginning. If that is the case, then the pro can recommend clubs for you.

Right now, I would recommend hit Walmart, Target, Sport Authority, or d**k's and purchase you a starter set for under $200.  If you look, you can fine one that has 14 clubs and a bag.  The balls you buy should be under $20 and preferrably 18 in a box.  Once you get to the point you are consistantly managing your golf ball, then start thinking about Pro V1s, etc.  Once you begin managing the ball, then get fitted.

  3. Yes some manufacturers have something like this on their site telling you which clubs from there brand would be best for your game.  It doesn't tell you to buy the $1000 iron sets and the $500 driver either.  I know Cobra and Ping have it on there sites, Titelist might have it since they own Cobra.  It would be best if you are going to buy from a store or pro-shop to be fitted for your clubs.

  4. I always recommend going with a good set right from the begining. Callaway & Taylor Made would be your best option. If you go with cheaper clubs you will grow out of them right away. If you start with a good set you will learn with a good set, no need to change clubs later.
