  1. Books that are no longer protected by copyright law are available for free download at places like Project Gutenberg.

There are books where the author has decided to use a Creative Commons license, rather than copyright. Look at Cory Doctorow.

People post their own writing for free on fan-fic sites.

You can even check your library to see if they have e-books available for check-out. This is legal because there's a limited life on the book transfer. Not sure how they do it, but they do.

But the vast majority of current novels are protected by copyright law (authors have this weird thing about getting paid for their work) and as such, any free downloads you find will be ILLEGAL. Please don't participate in theft.

  2. books.google.com

  3. poetry.com has most famous posem for free.  Also they have new poets.

  4. The web sites are not free and someone has to pay for them. Expect some type of charge and lots of filling in (blanks). Never give your Primary e-mail address to any web site that wants your e-mail address or you may wake up the next day with lots of Spam.

I rather give anyone Yahoo until I know they are trust worthy since Yahoo does a fabulous job at stopping Spam.

You might try eBook sites that sale books cheaper since they don't have to (Publish) in hard book form and shipping charges, etc The eBook is the way of the future for the customer to buy and download right now without waiting for the snail mail. You can also Publish your own book as I did for a fraction of what the Book Publishers want and reap about all the profits your self instead of hundreds of hours to write a really good novel, just to get pennies on the dollar for royalties.
