Many people, including myself, have groups, cities, teams, etc, that the root (sp?) for no matter whether they are winning or loosing, right or wrong.

It is sort of like loyalty and sort of like patriotism.

Is there a word (or other words) for this devotion?

  1. It's called being ignorant I'm afraid. To continue to believe or do something regardless if it is wrong or not is borderline evil.

  2. Jingoism, tribalism, zealotry, allegiance, fidelity

  3. I think it's more like 'nationalism'. 'Regional pride'. 'Religious Lemmings'.

    Something like that.

  4. Yes, fanaticism, which is why such people are called "fans".

  5. Man, wouldn't it be great if there were something like a database of words and then words with similar meanings.

In your cases you could try: zeal

  6. Nationalism, fanaticism, zealotry

  7. That's actually nationalism.

  8. Chauvinism.

    1. zealous and aggressive patriotism or blind enthusiasm for military glory.

    2. biased devotion to any group, attitude, or cause.

  9. Parochialism.
