Ok, so I was just looking through youtube videos on "how to parallel park" and i read this one comment that the person failed his "written test" so he couldn't get his provisionals.

Is that true, do you really have to take a written test?

  1. Yes. There is a written test for a provisional license.

    It usually has 3 parts.

The first part is 100 multiple choice questions.

The second part has you drawing different driving scenarios -- like drawings of intersections etc.

The third part is answering any 3 of 8 questions in essay form, 90 to 125 words each.

They usually allow about 90 minutes for the test, and you have to make sure there is a space in the 'test room' on the day you make your appointment.

Seriously! Only the first part. It's just a somewhat simple multiple guess test, maybe 30 questions. Just read and understand the manual and you'll do ok. Most states have practice questions on their web sites. (Google the name of your state and DMV together; like for California, CA DMV. It's always one of the first three hits. )

    Good luck.

  2. Yes you do and if you read the handbook and study the answers are in the book..........
