I'm becoming a vegetarian. What about oriental flavored? Do they actually kill animals to make this stuff?

  1. i dont believe there is

  2. yes if it's beef or chicken flavoring it actually has beef or chicken in it... usually it's "beef fat" or something like that.  also, stuffing, be careful... even if it's just "herb flavored" it might be mad with chicken stock.  i forget what the "flavor" of stuffing is that has no meat, but there is one... and yes oriental flavor ramen is okay for a veg.  soups you have to watch too.  just because it's vegetable soup, it might still have chicken stock.  broccoli cheddar soup is often made with chicken stock too.  i'm not sure why they can't just use vegetable stock but they usually don't :/  become an avid label reader! good luck!

  3. Yes, there is.... and the oriental flavor??? They actually kill Orientals to make that stuff.

  4. Unless the label states that it's vegetarian OR the ingredients specifically say something like "artificial beef [or chicken, etc] flavoring from non-meat sources," it's really meat.

Any time you see ingredients like beef broth, chicken fat, beef powder, or any other mention of animal flesh, it's a dead animal.

Top Ramen's Oriental flavor was veg-friendly at last check (but their ingredients have changed a few times over the years, so check for yourself.)

  5. Yeah there is, but those are gross anyway!

  6. RTFL.  For Gaia's sake, most of the ramen packages will say they have actual beef stock or chicken stock.

Dr. MacDougals makes some pretty good vegan soup cups that are fairly low in calories and low in sodium.  They aren't as cheap as the ramen packets, but they are a lot better.

  7. There is, yes.  YES!!!

I don't know why people keep saying no!  READ THE PACKAGES!

There is powdered Beef in the beef flavoring.  Powdered Chicken in the chicken flavoring, etc.

And the ones that don't list meat?  Many of those get their extracts from sardines!

  8. Yes they do.  Read the ingredients.

  9. no, haha! it's flavor...no meat....

edit: i never liked beef flavored ramen...don't know why

  10. If you're eating Nissin Top Ramen they have a FAQ on their site.

    http://www.nissinfoods.com/faqs.php

According to them, their Oriental flavor does not contain any animal products. But their other flavors might, like chicken, beef, etc.

If you're looking at a different brand though, you should read the ingredients very carefully.
