    the whole story is described in the reports written by the Roman governor (Pontius Pilate) to his boss (the Roman Emperor) as well as some letters written by locals complaining that the governor was not decisive enough.

    Barrabas was also a real person. The governor's problem was having to explain why Barrabas (a rebel who killed a Roman soldier) was released
