If there was nothing, wouldn't there need to be something to create nothing? So i guess the real question is: Is there such a thing as nothing?

  1. Perhaps a better question is whether there is always nothing in something.

  2. Nothing is something:

    What are you doing? nothing

so you are doing soemthing, but it's nothing. lol This can also go into religous things..wow

  3. Well nothing is an idea,  so therefore nothing is...nothing...

  4. As long as someone living is here to label it nothing, then it lives and remains "nothing."

No doubt about it.  Nothing is something.  It is the potential for everything.

The day that there is no life around to contemplate this "nothing" of yours is the day that it exists.

  5. This is a wonderful question to stimulate others to think, ponder, and then express----"Good job CIA!".

I love it when questions make me dig into the inner circle of self and then find that so many other people have close to same ideas and/or feelings on the subject creating the stimulus.  It helps to feel connected---like in the movie about the farmer building a baseball field---"Build it and they will come." and "Encounters of the Third Kind" when hundreds were pulled toward and to the place where the ship from outer space was to land?   The same is with philosophical questions as such--"Ask it and they will answer!"  with honesty and prideful wonder and a bit of self-curiosity in search of validity of thoughts and feelings.

To me a great deal of the time when I say--"Oh nothing"...is a sign that I am not ready to reveal the "Something" that I labeled as "Nothing"---whether it is because I feel it is none of their business or if I am embarrassed or fearful of what  their reaction would be if they were to know what that  "Something" that is "Nothing" actually was.  Be as it may, "Nothing" is always a derivative of that "Something" just as "Nothing" is a derivative of that "Something".

Now what about the phrase:  "You have been chosen to receive a brand new laptop---FREE!"  "Free"----psych!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the opportunity to express---Tillie

  6. always and never

  7. i also have thought about this... A LOT. and, no, technically there is no such thing as 'nothing'. well, that is the conclusion i have come to anyway. everything has to be 'something', because nothing (as i take it to mean) would have to be the lack of anything- no atoms, no energy, no molecules.... and, as far as my understanding of science and philosophy is concerned (im 13) it is not possible. i may be wrong, but still. no matter what it is, it has to be made of energy, and atoms... i guess it is like with darkness. it is just without light. i hope i made sense to you and others.

    Have a wonderful day!

  8. that would be thinking nothing wouldn't it?

so what is thinking - Heidegger

    what is nothing - Nishitani

  9. See the movie "LEMONY SNICKETS".

  10. there is always, no matter how many times you think or talk about it, something in nothing, otherwise there wouldn't be a nothing, it would be an empty void mass of space, which is you think about it.. is really still SOMETHING.... yep, mind busting stuff this question is.. good one =)

  11. There is no such thing as nothing.

Maybe doing less than evrybody else is nothing but in reality  "Nothing" is"Somthing.

    Interesting question.

  12. yes

  13. no

  14. How to draw a picture.

    Start with a blank surface.

It doesn't have to be paper or canvas.

but, I feel it should be white,

    because we need a word,

but it's true name is "nothing."

Black is the absence of light,

but white is the absence of menory,

the color of can't remember.-- Stephen King

  15. no...i guess there isn't. Because nothing is something, and everything, if it is a thought or an object, is something. So there is NO such thing as absolutely nothing. It is a phrase, i guess. I've never really thought of it until. Thanks for the idea to think on!

  16. Yes, But for every action there's an opposite reaction. So wherever there is nothing there is also something.

  17. Nature abhors a vacuum and I detest my Hoover.

  18. I'm the complaint manager of a major airline, and let me tell you...

Some of our customers who call us, have "absolutely nothing" where their brains should be...

    Hee Hee...

(but seriously, it seems to me, that NO...there couldn't be "nothing," because even an endless "non-void" would be something...)

  19. Since nothing is the absence of something, yes, there has to be something for nothing to occur, Grasshopper.

  20. Personally, I never believed so. It just doesn't make sense. Kind of like the idea of eternity. But of course, there are something that human minds are not supposed to understand. We all have to remember that. But it is something to think about, as mind-boggling as it seems.

  21. mmm..good question... I'd say no, because there is always something.  Like asking someone "whats wrong with you?" and they say "Oh, nothing" there is always something, or "hey, what are you doing?" and they say "Nothing" and in reality they are doing something from laying on the floor starring into space "nothing" to thinking about nothing which is something.  Like space between two people, whats in between..some may say "nothing" and there is something if you get into depths with it.  My head hurts :P j/k But I guess it may be like a metaphor when there is "nothing", like .. there is nothing interesting or anything one would like to know..

  22. The word nothing in itself is something.

  23. There is always something whether it is nothing or something else! but there is always something if only a void.

  24. No, I don't think there necessarily is such a thing as nothing. But this is a very debatable topic where both sides are correct.

  25. There is a pair of every thing. For,example: Life & Death,Profit & Loss, etc. Similarly, there can be pair of Something & Nothing. In something there can also exist nothing and viceverse. In conclusion, we use to do something to obtaining nothing. Accordingly, there is always something in nothing. Thus, there is a thing as nothing. For example, not to get success by making so many efforts can be termed as nothing. Thanks & great day.

  26. No because if someone says what are you doing and you say nothing, saying nothing is something and so is breathing and talking so there is no such thing as nothing...

  27. metaphyscially, nothingness doesn't exist. However, it the context of normal language which already presuppose something, then nothing is lack of that something.

  28. My answer might be boring

A thing, like everything else in its most relateable form, is an idea.

    Therefore, its a thing.

Everything is a thing, even nothing

An idea is a thing, cause a thing, like eveything else, is an idea.

    So, Yes.

  29. I have spent endless hours pondered this question myself. How can ANYTHING be made of NOTHING.  My final thought on this it is impossible for something not to consist of something.  This is as fascinating as the concept of infinity, but it addresses inner infinity rather than what exists on the other side of the universe and beyond.

  30. No, nothing is the absence of creation.  If nothing had to be created, then it wouldn't be nothing, it would be something.

    Duh.

  31. yes theres always something in nothing because nothing is obviously something so there is such a thing as nothing because nothing is something and sometimes something is nothing.lol
