Is there an Amazon.com in Australia? - The shipping rates are too expensive from America, that's if you can find a company that will ship outside the US. Maybe China?

How about a similar website?

  1. No, there is no Australian Amazon.com. Australian alternatives depend on what type of item you're after.

For books, forget the major booksellers like Dymocks as their prices are the same as their shelf prices plus quite high shipping charges.

I use The Nile http://www.thenile.com.au (they have free shipping over $65)

and The Australian Online Bookshop http://www.bookworm.com.au/

Both have good prices but their range isn't anything like Amazon's. I still end up getting a fair bit from Amazon because I want new publications and find that even with shipping it's invariable cheaper than retail.

If you aren't buying books, post what you do want and I'll see if I can help. Most things are available here if you know where to look.

  2. No, there isnt.

Can I suggest that you buy locally? All the major music and book stores here are online. And generally if they dont stock it, they can order it in and you would be doing your part to support the Australian economy and ensure that people here keep thier jobs.

  3. No there no Amazon.com for Australia (although i read somewhere that it might be on the cards for sometime in the future....) um... if you wish to buy from an Australian retailer... the majority of the mail retail stores offer at least some form of online sale.... also try.... dstore.com.au... its no where near as cheep as amazon... but they are good to deal with and every time i have purchased something from them i have received the item quite quickly...
