Is there an adapter that allows you to use batteries (AA/AAA/etc) for normal plugs you find on wall sockets?

Basically, its so I can make my Keyboard, which doesnt run on batteries but uses a power plug, more portable (so I wouldnt need a plug to be near by, just some batteries).

  1. no.

    wait...

i thought keyboards plug into your computer?

I never heard of plugging a keyboard directly into a wall.

But anyways, batteries are DC and can never be used as AC.

  2. There are special batteries that can do this.  However normal batteries (AA, AAA, etc.) cannot.  Also, the special batteries are rather more expensive than a new keyboard.

A standard wall outlet is 125 V.  A standard battery is 1.5 V.  This means that you'd need 84 batteries in order to make your keyboard more "portable".

Also, batteries are direct current, and a standard outlet is alternating current.  Meaning that even if you had 84 batteries and an adapter, it still wouldn't work.

In case you are wondering, direct current flows continuously in one direction, while alternating current actually has the flow of electrons change on a constant cycle.

  3. "Technically possible, realistically uneconomical" would be the short answer. A current inverter, a step-up transformer, a large bank of batteries to provide current... you could DO it but in the end it's easier to just buy a new keyboard.

I'm also curious what kind of keyboard would require that kind of power. Never seen or heard of a keyboard with it's own power source independent of the ps2 or USB port.
