I have a USB modem, but I need a router for other purposes. My router connects to a modem via an ethernet port, but I have a USB modem. Is there an adapter that will allow me to plug the USB device into an ethernet port?

  1. (1) You can use Windows connection sharing to make your computer's Ethernet connection usable by the router. This works for free (assuming your computer has an Ethernet port), but only works while your computer is on (and between system crashes).

    (2) If you have a broadband ISP, you can get them to supply you with a broadband modem that has an Ethernet port. The cost of the modem is often subsidized, provided you sign up for a required term of service.

    (3) Both cable modems and DSL modems are available from third-parties. For example, I'm using a Diamond Multimedia DSL602E DSL modem with my Earthlink DSL service because it works better (more reliably) than the modem supplied by Earthlink.

  2. No, there isn't.You can buy an ethernet port for your computer and install that onto your computer, but you can't use an adaptor to convert ethernet to USB.

    Hope that helps.
