you run more when you are in the far lanes, but in a track event, they are a little ahead to make all the contestants have an equal start and finish distance

in a stagger start, no. but if you start at the same place in lane 8 as you would start in lane 1, you will end up going farther.

if anything it will mess with your head b/c you will think you start out ahead or behind the rest of the pack.

All the lanes have different starting places for a reason....

The reason is that everyone will end up running the same distance, making NO advantage to running in the inside lane.

no, the stagger is intended to make it the same distance all the way around.

but it is good to see where everyone is when you are coming around the bends.
