  1. Not entirely sure about costa rica, but for most Central American Countries it is very difficult to legally import a car that will remain there (visiting is not too difficult).

    Generally one has to pay some portion of the origional value of a car (not it's current value). Therefore one might have to pay much more than a car's value in the USA to import it if the car is more than 10 years old.


  2. last I heard, which was a few years ago, any cars imported to Costa Rica have to pay a tariff about equal to the car's entire value.  This is part of the reason why Costa Rica has so many 35-year old Honda Civics driving around.

  3. i don't know about age but it's not cheap to send a car there
