I am doing a Jane Austen tour through England and Ireland in a few months and I am 28. I wanted to stay in hostels but I did not know if there was an age limit or not because my traveling buddy is 22.

  1. There is NO age limit to stay in hostels in either the UK or Ireland.

The only place in Europe I know of that does operate an age limit is Bavaria in Germany, where priority is given to travellers aged 26 or under.

  2. No, there is no upper limit for hostels.

  3. My daughter just finished her freshman year in Costa Rica.  Another mother & I traveled down to meet & visit with our respective daughters, staying in hostels and I can assure you that, as mothers of 18-year olds, we are a LOT older than you!  I think the issue is more what type of noise, inconvenience and partying you might be willing to put up with.  These factors were an issue only at our first booking.
