Question:

Is there an age when neutering a mature cat is not recommended?

I may be taking care of a mature, un-neutered cat. I always have my animals spayed or neutered when young, and was just curious if this is often done on older cats. Thanks for any answers!

  1. Neutering sooner or later it is all good!

  2. It is NEVER too late to get a cat neutered. I would if I were you.

    Hope I helped

  3. The only risk that exsists is in elderly cats or cats not in good health who may not be good candidates for surgury that invovles ansethsia of any type and would be put at unnessacary risk.  Otherwise a mature but healthy cat is good to go.

  4. Never too old to be neutered!  Although the anesthesia risk increases with age you may take necessary precautions with bloodwork before anesthetic is administered.

  5. A vet will not perform a surgery that requires anesthesia on an animal that is not in good physical health. Neutering is a fairly easy procedure, a lot easier recovery than spaying. There should be no reason a mature cat can't be neutered, unless a vet feels that the recovery/surgery will be too much of a stress on an already weak state of physical health.
