Question:

Is there an agency that regulates mortgage brokerages?

I recently had a VERY bad experience with my mortgage brokerage as I was trying to buy a new house. We were 12 days late closing, and that is only the beginning. I would have changed agencies had I known that it would take so long. Who can I report their bad service to, or what recourse options do I have?

  1. Technically, the Fed is responsible for regulating the mortgage industry, but in this case, i don't think there's anything you can really accomplish.

  2. None. Closing dates are an estimate. 12 days is more than acceptable.

  3. department of financial institutions in your state or the attorney general. i had the same experience, but they stole my title to my home and 40 k in equity.....you think you got it baddddddddd.
