Question:

Is there an alternative to Dialysis?

I just wanted to know this, my friend has Creatinine of 770, Urea of 37.3 and his eGFR kidney function is at just 6%. He refuses to do dialysis saying that he'll rather die. Does anyone know any alternatives than Dialysis - any non-invasive treatment?

  1. Getting new kidneys, but that's probably not much of an option.

  2. Other than a kidney transplant, and soon, the only alternative sadly is death.  Try to consider and respect your friend's right to choose while you continue your concerned compassion.  Be supportive.

  3. The creatinine level indicates that kidney failure is imminent.Once kidney failure occurs treatment in the form of dialysis is required immediately. Death will occur within days to a week maximum if no treatment is sought.

My kidneys failed last december and I've been on dialysis since then. I originally had said that I didn't want anything to do with dialysis, but when push can to shove I had the choice of doing or dying.

Because of my poor health condition and other medical problems, I felt that continuing wouldn't be worth it.Over time, however, I've lost some weight, have medications to fix problems with the blood caused by kidney failure, and feel much, much better.

The facts are that dialysis isn't fun, but my experience is that it isn't so bad. I can do alot of stuff, even play golf. I couldn't have imagined ever doing anything that required a bit of energy when my creatinine hit the 700's.

From my own experience your friend's reaction is normal. With a little time to think things over I'm quite sure that he'll progress from the denial stage to the acceptance stage that everyone goes through when faced with bad news.

Lastly, dialysis isn't really all that invasive, and if one looks at the benefits it offers, the inconvenience becomes insignificant.

  4. Your kidneys are vital organs...those numbers are representative of kidneys that have just about packed it in.

Your friend should be grateful that medical science has advanced to the point that dialysis is available, and has saved the lives of millions of people who otherwise would be dead.  Dialysis can be an inconvenience...but I happen to think death is more inconvenient.

There is NO alternative to dialysis other than kidney

    transplant.

Anybody that tells you different (take this herb, rub these magic crystals) is a liar!!!

There are several answers to this question already that are basicallly delusional lies.

  5. contact me and I can let you know of some remedies that are a good Kidney detox.

  6. There isn't much of a choice. However, dialysis is not necessarily the horror that he believes it is. A couple of sessions a week for haemodialysis and he will find himself feeling much better and should shortly realise that it is not the burden that he thought.

There are other forms of dialysis that may be suitable for him. For example, peritoneal dialysis can be used at home, some people have the machine running at night so they are not disturbed during the day. This involves using the lining of the abdomen as a filter for the body's waste products and running saline through it over a number of hours. It puts the patient in control of their routine and for those that it is suitable for can be an excellent choice.

  7. My grandpa used MonaVie.  Its some fruit drink derived from the amazon with nothing but exotic fruits and its helped with his weekly dialysis and sleeping problems.  Now he only goes every month!  His doctor now recommends this to patients.  Give me a shout if you want to look into it, jstavro316@mac.com

  8. Yes - this is the alternative to dialysis.Your friend can follow this and he will get better gradually(allow 6 to 12 months), but will notice the benefits in weeks.Keep checking the Creatinine to monitor progress.I would like to know the outcome in a few months.

You need to help your body to build up your immune system. The breathing exercises - pranayam is a holistic approach creating extra oxygen supply in the body and will slowly help with the health problem.Do the pranayam to see the benefits.Build up your timing slowly and after two weeks at the suggested duration you will start to notice benefits.

Bhastrika - Take a long deep breath into the lungs(chest not tummy) via the nose and then completely breathe out through the nose.Duration upto 5 minutes.

Kapalbhati -(Do it before eating) Push air forcefully out through the nose about once per second. Stomach will itself go in(contract in). The breathing in(through the nose) will happen automatically. Establish a rhythm and do for upto 30 minutes twice a day.(Max 60 min/day) Not for pregnant women. Seriously ill people do it gently.

Anulom Vilom - Close your right nostril with thumb and deep breath-in through left nostril

then – close left nostril with two fingers and breath-out through right nostril

then -keeping the left nostril closed  deep breath-in through right nostril

then - close your right nostril with thumb and breath-out through left nostril.

This is one cycle of anulom vilom.

Repeat this cycle for 20 to 30  minutes twice a day(maximum 60 minutes in one day).

You can do this before breakfast/lunch/dinner or before bedtime or in bed.Remember to take deep long breaths into the lungs. You can do this while sitting on floor or chair or lying in bed.

Bhramri Pranayam -Close eyes. Close ears with thumb, index finger on forehead, and rest three fingers on base of nose touching eyes. Breathe in through nose. And now breathe out through nose while humming like a bee.

    Duration : 5 to 10 times

    ----

Only by doing you will benefit and will feel good that you can do something to help the body.Copy and print this to master the technique. This is  simplified pranayam for everyone and you do not have to go to classes to learn. This is for life unlike short term classes where you do it in the class then stop when classes are over.

Also do this: kneel down, breathe out, pull in stomach, keep your both hands on stomach, bend forward and try to touch the floor with your forehead.Do this 3 times to stimulate the kidney and pancreas.
