  1. stay out of the water until period is over.

  2. You can try to take a bubble bath before you go. Sometimes getting water up there ceases the flow for a day, then it comes back. Doushing isnt recommended longterm, but once in a very great while might be ok. (Talk to you doctor at your annual obgyn checkup.)  Have backup pantiliners. U should definatly try tampons. I started using them at 14.  I liked the tampax slender reglar, now in pearl.  If its the "heavy" day, or the second day, consider super tampons (playtex sport). Maybe bring baby wipes in a zipock also. I cut the string short with scissors so it won't show out the side of my swimsuit.  Just push it far up that you can't feel it , if you can see the tampon poking out in the mirror, its not far up enough.  Wash your hands before and after!   Change the tampon before you get in when you get out of the water.   Have fun!

  3. The alternative to tampons that I know of is a menstrual cup. But if you're not comfortable with the idea of a tampon, a menstrual cup would blow your mind!

If you've never worn a tampon, I'm not surprised you're a little scared. Who isn't afraid of the unknown? Buy a box of tampons and do a little practicing. Lots of people seem to like Playtex Sport. I prefer OB, which has no applicator. Once you get the hang of it, you'll wonder what all the fuss was about.

Add: Reduce your chances of getting toxic shock by minimizing the number of hours you wear a tampon.

  4. There isn't any alternative to a tampon. But your period stops once you enter the water, so if you plan to stay in the water for a certain amount of time and then get out and change, you shouldn't have any problem with your period.

  5. If you are taking birth control pills -

      a) Combined type (all one colour) don't stop for the week of your period; go on to the next package for another 3 weeks.

      b) Sequential type - 2 colours - skip the last 7 pills of a different colour and go on to the next package.

You should try this  method only rarely

       Otherwise - no alternative               /MD

  6. If you are worried about using a tampon, put a little Vaseline on the tip and then insert. It will be much easier.

Also, you may want to use OB tampons, they are very absorbent and puff up inside.

Good luck and have fun swimming.

  7. Possibly a nibbled hot dog bit?

  8. no theres not any that i know of

i tried swimming with pads and it was a total disaster

  9. There's not much of anything else besides a tampon. I'd suggest starting with a light tampon like the slender ones that Playtex makes or another type of slender one. Plastic applicators seem to be a little easier to insert than others. They are a little uncomfortable to get used to at first, but once you get used to it, you will be glad that you tried them. As far as the toxic shock syndrome you are worried about, it's very rare and as long as you know the symptoms (and if you do experience the symptoms to get to a doctor), and are careful about changing your tampon every 4-6 hours you have a low risk of getting toxic shock syndrome
