Question:

Is there an alternative to using nails for hardboarding a bathroom floor?

3mm boards... later today I've got all the fun of trying to rip out loads of hardboarding in the bathroom... which is fully nailed down. Then I've got to replace with new hardboard.

Is there an alternative... something where I could reasonably easily and quickly get the hardboard back up if needing access to the floorboards????

I just can not understand why anyone would voluntarily use nails for the hardboarding a bathroom and a toilet floor?

What happens if you need to get to the pipes beneath?

Thanks.

  1. Use screws (made for that flooring and available in HD) instead.  (And install with a variable drill with the proper bit)

The floors you are ripping up may have been done by a nail gun. When using a nail gun there is a tendency to use more than if you were doing it manually.  Then again it may have been installed at a time when screws were not available or galvanized screws were not available.

When the floor is tiled but access is need for pipes you open up the ceiling below.
