I've found out that drug dealers found new techniques to smuggle their drugs in different places by putting them in crates of coffee, so that even dogs can't detect the smell of drugs because of the intense smell of coffee.

  1. Sharks have an incredible sense of smell. They have many sensors up on their nose, which help pick up a single drop of blood from up to several miles away. In water!

  2. " I would think the wolf,..

    because they,.. are closely related,...

and because the wolf,...lives out in the wild,...

and has to depend on it's keen sense of smell

more than a dog,...dogs can live in the wild ,...

    but they are usually domesticated,.....yep,..

    I vote,...wolf,..Best wishes,....:)

  3. too many to mention. Moths and sharks for example....

regarding your second question, if the coffee crate is properly sealed, so that no molecules of drug can leak out to be detected, then no animal can smell it. many animals will be able to smell the drugs over the smell of the coffee if it is not actually sealed, including dogs. For olfactory animals, it is like seeing a buttercup among a field of dandelions - if you are looking for it, you will be able to distinguish between them easily.

  4. A vulture for sure, but I don't think you could train them to be drug sniffers too easily lol.  For every "trick" drug smugglers learn, a new solution is found so they don't get away with it for long.  They're starting to x-ray imports - especially coffee - just for the reason you describe.

  5. There are plenty, Pigs and Vultures for example.

Vultures are often cited as the animals with the strongest sense of smell alive today.

Pigs have a strong sense of smell for sniffing out tubers in mud.  Vultures have a strong sense of smell to find freshly dead corpses from high up in the air.

  6. Alligators have about 10 times the olfactory sensors of a dog...

  7. believe it or not Pigs do they have stronger sense of smell.

  8. Yes, the polar bear because cause it can smell a female up to 90 miles away and becuase it has an 11 percent smell rating to our .5 of 1 percent on the smell graph.

The polar bear's most common hunting method is called still-hunting: The bear uses its excellent sense of smell to locate a seal breathing hole, and crouches nearby in silence for a seal to appear. When the seal exhales, the bear smells its breath, reaches into the hole with a forepaw, and drags it out onto the ice.

  9. Pigs!  They have been used for centuries in France to find underground truffles, a gourmet fungus.  Pigs can smell all sorts of things hidden underground, as this is how wild pigs find a lot of their food.

Pigs are also trained by police to find drugs, as their sense of smell is much stronger than that of a dog, believe it or not!

Apparently they are not as useful for detaining suspects as a dog, maybe that is why police don't have more of them.  I remember the Tacoma  WA police department very happily obtaining a pig for this purpose.
