  1. "According to Richard Stone's book Mammoth (2001), Russian zoologist Alexei Tikhonov (who figures in articles about the recent Siberian find) once tried a bite and said "it was awful. It tasted like meat left too long in a freezer."

The most common thread to eating mammoth meat is that it was served at the New York Explorer's Club.

"We did not have the recently thawed mammoth, the meat from Alaska that was served at an earlier annual dinner."

"Many years ago I read about an explorers’ club in New York dining on one-inch cubes of mammoth meat that had been cut from a mammoth found encased in ice in Siberia."

My memory is that the dinner was held about 1900.

No doubt the meat is inedible as a main dish. A "one-inch cube," well cooked, could be choked down (As I have "road killed squid") but think of freezer burned meat that you tried to eat.

  2. Nope...This is it!
