  1. There is a chess oscar awarded annually.

However, it is much less prestigious than an acting Oscar or similar awards. The reason is that, as in sports, winning performance needs no other acknowledgement. To be world champion, no 1 ranked or winner of major tournaments carries the prestige.

Then there is the grandmaster title, although this now indicates professional standard rather than greatness.

  2. yes you need to compete in comations

  3. No.

He might win the World Championship, etc., but there is no "Lombardi" trophy or green Jacket.

  4. Bragging rights ;)

  5. the satisfaction of victory compels everything.

  6. yeah... respect.........   -_-

  7. All tournament chess players are given a rating, and when they get specific ratings and do some things they're awarded titles.

There are a few titles that one can get.. FIDE Master, International master, and Grandmaster. People with these titles are generally good enough to beat 99.9% or more of all people in chess. There are also world championships, with prizes into the millions of dollars... and the title of being the chess world champion.
