Question:

Is there an easy alarm fix for my Dodge Viper?

I took out the stock Alpine unit in my 2001 Dodge RT/10 Viper for an Eclipse CD5000 unit. When I got it back from the shop the haorn beeped 3 times when I set the alarm and it DID lock the doors but when you reach in and open the door no horn... The horn does work. There is a security wire for the alarm behind the dash that is not hooked up, the Eclipse does not have a security input. Should this wire be tied to a 12V permanent or a ground or what? Dodge could not help me out either... I just would like the alarm to function the way it is supposed to. ANY help would be appreciated! Thanks.

  1. Your radio install should not have had any effect on any factory alarm system you may have.  The dash trim around the radio comes out without unplugging anything.  therefore, there should be no issue as to any factory alarm system buy putting in a radio.

I Dont remember if a factory alarm system was an option on the 2001 Vipers.  Is it Possible that the alarm is not a Factory Dodge, but a Dealer Addon Alarm system, that has been turned off and set to a valet setting?  That would explain why a keyless entry and the horn works but the alarm is not activating when you open the door.

Look for a blinking light with a button on the back side of it.  If you have a button behind a light under the dash, its most likely not factory.  turn the key and try to push in on any button found.  Otherwise, the dealer should know how to activate their alarm.

  2. There is a blue wire on my viper that goes to ground, but mine is a 95 RT10
