Question:

Is there an easy way of getting stains off an enamel bath?

Mainly a little bit of rust and a lot of hair dye...

Any easy remedies - only tried bleach which I didn't expect to get rid of the rust but thought it might tackle the dye. It hasn't.

I don't want to repaint - any quickies you can recommend?

Thanks in advance xx

  1. Sadly there isn't a lot you can do about dyed enamel. You can try Bicarbonate of Soda and a whole lot of elbow grease!

It will probably be a re-paint job....

I did this to an enamel bath once and the bicarb is great on rust, but dye I couldn't shift.

  2. Vinigar and Baking soda work well - it will bubble and get down deep- you could always use goo Gone which does everything and is good to have in the house for any stains in carpet or furniture

  3. If it's any colour other than white, with a lot of difficulty! Brown, green, red and blue are 'porous colours and dirt tends to stick into the enamel. If it is rusting, you would be better off buying a new bath.

  4. You could try sprinkling biological washing powder around your bath and filling it with warm water and leaving it to soak for a few hours and see if that will wash it out - as for the rust  idont  think it will help with that.

I think a new bath is needed.

  5. Use a soap pad (Brillo) and lemon juice.
