Question:

Is there an easy way to do a tile trim on the walls along the floor?

We are redoing our bathroom and just got done with the floor. We are looking to do a tile trim around the bottom edge of the wall and I was just wondering if there was an easy way to do this. Would liquid nails work and then grout between the tiles? Or do we need to do the whole mortar thing. If so, can we just stick the tiles to the drywall? I don't really want to have to mess with cement board when we only want to do one course. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  1. Well, it depends.

I know that one of my friends used some seal-material and it worked well....

It just needs to stick and be waterproof so the mold and mildew won't get in.

  2. You're totally right! I'd do the liquid Nails (love the stuff)... and then cover w grout, slowly, piece or two at a time and WIPE thouroughly as you go.

I've dealt w these two mediums for years in homes, and in artwork.  I love them both and they go well together. Just make sure to lay a boundary (tape, maybe) on the floor and wall to keep the lines neat and straight! Good luck!

  3. Use tile mastic, which you apply with a notched trowel.  Go to a home center or tile store, talk to someone in the tile/flooring department, and they will set you up.  After the mastic sets up, grout between the tile and caulk the top.  It's a relatively easy process.  Good luck.

  4. You don't need mortar for wall tiles.  You can use ceramic tile adhesive.  Right out of the container, no mixing.  Easy!

I'd tile using the adhesive against the drywall, and then grout it.

  5. Check with an Expert at the Hardware Store. You may get just the answer you are looking for.

I hope you have some fun doing the work.
