Is there an effective alternative to spirit gum remover?

Planning to make up my face like Heath Ledger's Joker.

I have liquid latex, spirit gum and all of the make up necessary but not the spirit gum remover.

1) What is a good alternative to spirit gum remover?

2) How badly can spirit gum irritate skin if removed without spirit gum remover?

3) Would using liquid latex as an adhesive be a better idea?
