Is there an electronic device that detects the amount of light going through it? For my chip.

I need a device that has a light and a sensor that detects if anything blocks the light. It would be perfect if it could not just detect if there was something blocking the light but tell you how much light is getting through. Is there such a device? I need it for my project>

There are lots of light-intensity meters, depending on accuracy and range.

Most digital cameras, with the appropritae menu settings will display light intensity as well.

The simplest meter would be a photo-diode sensor connected in series to an amp  meter.
